Pupils from across the age ranges at Green Lane Primary Academy joined members of Middlesbrough Erimus Rotary on Monday November 1st to plant hundreds of crocus bulbs in a ‘Purple for Polio’ initiative.

The resulting purple blooms appear each year to remind children and parents alike that the fight to eradicate polio across the globe continues. Rotarians worldwide have played a leading part to get vaccinations into infant arms everywhere and the disease, once rampant in the UK and elsewhere has now been confined to areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Children listened attentively to the success story which today helps remind young and old alike that diseases like Covid can be defeated with vaccines and good hygiene. Next spring the school is looking forward to seeing a small part of Green Lane turning Purple!
