On Yorkshire Day -Tuesday August 1st- Middlesbrough Erimus Rotary took two big steps in a new direction.
The first was to welcome Steve Donnison representing Middlesbrough College as the first Corporate member of Erimus rotary. who with another senior member of the college staff Alister Wrigley will act as an alternate member. This action formalises a relationship which has seen the College and its students cooperate closely with Erimus in developing the Tees Heritage Walk , scheduled to be a major annual charity fundraising exercise together with planting hundreds of ‘Tees Trees’ along the riverbank.
Sue Johnson was also inducted into membership having upgraded her status from an associate of Erimus rotary.
In a second major change to the club’s profile and activity , members voted unanimously in favour of starting a once a month ‘Breakfast Meeting’ which will be held at Middlesbrough College. The project which has a one year trial period will, it’s hoped bring together local business, charities and some of those now ‘Working From Home’ in order to form a group dedicated to supporting their local community under the auspices of Rotary.
Erimus President Terry Bolton expressed his hope for these initiatives saying “ By working together we can achieve so much more than individually so this is a win for everyone involved.”
Steve Donnison , the College’s Head of ‘Teaching and Learning, Personal Development, Behaviours and Attitudes’ declared his optimism stating “ Our students are strongly motivated by working and learning through real life projects, the partnership with Erimus rotary offers the framework to do exactly that”.
Jacqui Molyneux , Vice President of Erimus voiced her approval of the process confirming “ These changes to our established regime offer some really exciting and innovative ways of supporting local communities across the town”.
